WHAT WAS THE JOURNEY OF THE CUBITE?

The Journey of the Cubite was the Order of the Cube’s official pledge process for its first few years. A Cubite is a man who has pledged himself formally to undertaking the arduous task of familiarizing himself with the values of the Order through memorable experiences, challenges, and events that are taken on together in fellowship alongside his Cubite companions. For many, this was the most cherished memory of their relationship with the Cube and the satisfaction. At the end of this journey, the Cubite was initiated into the Order as a full Cube-man. Elements of this journey are now integrated into the Brothers Rising program of the Cube, but the original program is well fleshed out and available especially for younger men (age 18-22) who wish to join the Order by those means.

RITUAL EVENTS

Ritualistic events were and are the core of the Cubite Journey, where key concepts of the Order are learned in a memorable and theatrical fashion to establish kinship between the brothers of the Cube and the class of Cubites. The Cubites are guided by the Preceptor of the Ritual, who is responsible for planning and executing the Cubite events, and also making sure that the Cubites are doing well throughout their journey. To help him with his tasks, the Preceptor is assisted by the Guardian of the Ritual, who in addition to his supporting role with the Preceptor, is responsible for guarding the door during ritual meeting and making sure that the ritual supplies are organized and well stocked. These two Brothers of the Cube generally work most closely with the Cubites and should be contacted first for questions relating to their experience. Each Cubite would also be maintaining close personal relationships with the men in his respective class, for the memory of each event will be with him standing alongside his fellow Cubites.

CUBITE CHALLENGES

The secondary focus of the Cubite Journey was the accomplishment of individual and group challenges. These were revealed throughout the process in bits and pieces. Some tasks were more challenging for certain Cubites than others, but they were all to be responsible for accomplishing them together as a class. All challenges were meant to provide helpful tools for life or give a push in the right direction of practicing good habits. They also revealed a man's commitment to the Order, and his success in accomplishing these challenges gave us confidence that he would be a fine man of the Cube and give hope for the future of the Order.

CUBITE MEETINGS

Cubite meetings were also be held weekly to assess the progress of each member and discuss the lessons of each ritual event. These meetings are overseen by the Preceptor and the Guardian, but the Cubites control the direction of the meeting and set the tasks to be done for the week. In the second meeting, there is chosen a miniature leadership board consisting of the Master of the Cubites, a Minister of the Cubites, and the Scribe of the class. The roles are similar in nature to their respective Cube roles, although the Scribe’s minutes are always available for all Cube members, so they may be able to track the progress of the Cubites individually if they so wish.
